Is this a movement for democracy, or a partisan machine leveraging outrage to drive division?
The nationwide protest branded “No Kings Day,” meant to spotlight opposition to what organizers called “authoritarianism and billionaire-backed governance,” has roots in a high-powered political organizing group: The Indivisible Project.
Founded in 2016 by former Democratic congressional staffers, Indivisible has grown into a national force in progressive politics. The nonprofit, which trains and funds grassroots protest efforts, has claimed responsibility for organizing major resistance events, including today’s coordinated No Kings Day demonstrations. Through its dual structure—Indivisible Project (a 501(c)(4)) and Indivisible Civics (a 501(c)(3))—the group supplies funding, protest materials, and talking points to affiliated local organizers nationwide. It also has a political action committee.
The Rutherfordton No Kings Day protest organizer, a self-described non-binary pagan named Mortellus, is fundraising through their personal paypal account.
