SCOOP: Listen to six of the 11 Republican NC Lt. Governor candidates
Will there be a run-off? Plus, a slip of the tongue: Does Sam Page actually want to be Governor?
Mark Robinson, the current Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, is one of three Republicans running for Governor this year. (Stay tuned for that story.) He held a rally at the Polk County Middle School on February 10. Candidates must get to at least 30% of the vote to win the primary election, which is a greater challenge in a crowded race. Some candidates have raised millions, while others are running on limited grassroots campaigns, according to campaign finance records.
Hal Weatherman exclusively told Cops and Congress that he expects there to be a run-off, as I reported on Saturday on X (formerly known as Twitter).
With a slip of the tongue, Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page, a Lt. Gov. candidate, told me he has aspirations above the Lt. Governor’s seat (watch below).
Six of the 11 Republican candidates for NC Lt. Gov. spoke at the Polk County rally: Rivera Douthit, Jeffrey Elmore, Allen Mashburn, Sam Page, Hal Weatherman, and Seth Woodall.
The following candidates did not speak at the event, it is unclear if they were invited or chose not to attend: Marlenis Hernandez Novoa, Jim O'Neill, Ernest T. Reeves, Deanna Ballard, and Peter Boykin. Names are listed as they appear on the Republican primary ballot.
Watch and listen below to the candidates and Cops & Congress commentary. Early, in-person voting begins Thursday, Feb. 15 (click here to view my previous reporting).
