SC man charged with murder following overdose death in Spindale
Spindale police say Terrell Quante Ledbetter, a.k.a. “Yellow”, 46, was taken into custody on January 8.

A South Carolina man has been charged with murder following an overdose death in Spindale, police said in a news release.
On October 8, 2023, the Spindale Police Department (SPD) was notified of an overdose-related death at the Stagecoach motel. When officers arrived, two victims were located with one victim unconscious and one victim found deceased inside of the room. The unconscious victim was treated with Narcan but remained unconscious and transported to Rutherford Regional Hospital where the victim was hospitalized for an extended period before his recovery.
During the investigation, SPD detectives “were able to identify a suspect who possibly distributed the lethal narcotics to the victims. Surveillance footage, interviews, and other information secured via search warrant have played a major role in helping to establish probable cause concerning this case,” police said. Based on that information detectives were able to secure a warrant for Terrell Quante Ledbetter, also known as “Yellow” of Mauldin, SC with second-degree murder.
On January 8, 2024, SPD officers located Mr. Ledbetter’s vehicle at the Town and Country Inn. They were able to determine what room Ledbetter was staying in and took him into custody without further incident. Ledbetter is currently being held at the Rutherford County Detention Center without bond.
”These types of investigations may require months of dedicated work to establish the necessary evidence and probable cause to charge the perpetrators of these crimes. Despite this, officers remain committed to charging and bringing dealers of these drugs before the justice system,” SPD said.
Ledbetter, a convicted felon, has a lengthy list of previous charges and convictions, dating back to 1993 in North Carolina, according to public records.
In 2005 Ledbetter pled guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine base and was sentenced to 210 months of imprisonment, according to court records. Bureau of Prison records show he was released on January 13, 2023.
