New images released by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office provide a stark view of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office said, “As the entire county recovers from the devastation of hurricane Helena (sic), the following images from boots on the ground. Images don’t do justice but this is the best way for us to display the devastation in (the) Chimney Rock area.”
The photos capture the aftermath of heavy flooding, landslides, and structural damage that have left much of the iconic tourist area unrecognizable. Roads remain submerged, debris is scattered throughout the area, and residents are continuing to assess the damage to homes and businesses, when they’re allowed in.
Recovery efforts are ongoing as local authorities and volunteers work tirelessly to restore the area. The Sheriff’s Office continues to urge residents to remain cautious as the county rebuilds after this unprecedented storm.
