Why are there so many Boards and Commissions in our state and local government? Don't our tax dollars pay for government agencies to do the j.o.b. with accountable agency employees?
We now know from analysis at the federal level, that outsourcing agency functions reduces the value of the services reaching the taxpayer by 40 cents on the dollar (from .70 cents on the dollar before outsourcing began in the 1980's to .29 cents reaching us today). So outsourcing to failed and unresponive companies like CivicsPlus is costing us a LOT more than we need to be paying.
And then we have all these boards and commissions. What for? Are they supposed to take the blame when the agency employees fail to do their jobs? Are they supposed to be in the budgeting and decisionmaking process at the agencies where the do not actually work every single day? And if so, why do we have the agencies at all - if a board or commission of private citizens is making all the key decision for them?
